In the old west there is no sympathy, its kill or be killed, and it is no different in Rockstars latest title Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar is famous for the infamous Grand Theft Auto series.
Red Dead Redemption takes the game play style of Grand Theft Auto and puts it in the old west, you play as the ex outlaw John Marshton, a man who's family is being held captive while he sorts out some things from his past. The gameplay is top notch, from the shoot-outs to the mini games such as horse shoes, its fun plain and simple. The game plays almost just like a GTA title, you have a huge open world to explore, unlocking more areas as the story progresses, it is set in a place influenced by Texas, Colorado, and Mexico. The game features a wide array side missions in the form of people called Strangers, who are just that strangers that ask for help. They are of course optional. One thing I really loved about the game was there are random events such as someone horse be stolen or a woman being attacked, which you can choose to ignore or to intervene and help them, by helping them you will gain honor, by doing bad acts such as killing innocent people or stealing horses you honor goes down, both ways will gain you bonus features in game such as discounts in stores.
The voice acting in the game is amazing, all of the voices were picked right, and the actor put emotions in to the script. The ambiance and sound of the wild is great, you hear wolves howling, coyotes yipping, owls hooting, crickets chirping. It makes you feel as if you are in the land of New Austin and Mexico, right there with John Masrhton.
One thing I really enjoyed about the game is that Rockstar has made a good person the lead of a game, John is just a desperate man who is trying to get his family back and get over his old ways, in game he gets offers from Working Girls, he politely declines every time. This game is for people 17 and up, I cannot stress this enough, if you do not want your kids playing any game with profane language stray from this game it says everything from the f word to the infamous c word which is used quite often for a video game.
All in all, I loved this game, its worth every penny. I give it a perfect 10/10.
Good going Rockstar hope to see another like it.
