The game play of Saw is terrible, the best part of it is the trap designs, they are clever and take some brains to get through. Other than that the game is highly disappointing, at least for me it was.
The combat in this game is the Achilles heel of the game. It is absolutely atrocious, you fight with objects you pick up, things like, crutches, tire irons, bats, mostly blunt objects, there are some mines and guns in there but are a pain to use. You go into a combat stance when a enemy is around, you have 3 options, heavy attack, light attack, and block. You have to get the first hit with a heavy attack, or you will probably die. The controls themselves are not that bad, it is more of the response time between the controller to screen seems delayed, which can be very problematic in combat or timed situations such as the traps.
The graphics of the game are pretty average, the animation has some glitches in it with some of the NPC movements. Also, I noticed that the syncing of the mouths of NPCs and the voice acting, they just seemed a wee bit out of sync.
The sound is the only redeemable quality of this game, the sound is great. You can hear the sound of other victims of Jigsaws "games" crying and screaming in the asylum creates a great atmosphere. The voice acting how ever, to me it sounds like all the voice actors were bored and you could tell they were just reading of a script in front of them. Made the game feel very dry at moments.
My final thoughts on the Saw video game is, it feels a lot like a cheap budget Silent Hill, but for the same price. If you like survival horror go with Resident Evil 5 or Silent Hill Homecoming for next gen consoles. The game feels clunky, glitchy and makes the game not fun. If you are a fan of the Saw franchise you may enjoy it, if not save your money and get one of the other games I have mentioned. I give Saw the Video Game a 4/10.
